DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

OVERVIEW :

The Department of Psychology started functioning at WIRAS, in June 2010.Psychology is an upcoming field with increasing relevance in today’s society.The vision of Department of Psychology is to sensitize students to the need and importance of the subject today’s society by providing an enriching environment for learning and take up professions relating to the field. Also, students are encouraged to participate in workshops, seminars, symposia to enhance their theoretical knowledge and imbibe practical skills by participating in community outreach programmes. Various programmes and activities are encouraged for all round development of the students so that they are enriched with greater values of life and develop service–mindedness. Technology plays an important part in education today and hence each department is provided with a LCD projector, and classroom teaching utilizes the multimedia and digital technology. Students are motivated to use these in the academic presentations. The Department offers B.Sc. Psychology with Physiology and Statistics as complementary courses. The Department will offer the following Open courses in the year 2012 and onwards.

• Stress Management

COUNSELLING : The Department offers counseling services to its students. It has a fully furnished counselling room to provide the right environment for students to share their feelings.

PSYCHOLOGY LAB : The Department has a state-of-the-art lab to meet the academic requirements of the fifth and sixth semester students. The lab has nearly hundred tests and equipments apart from charts and models and students are encouraged to make use of them.
